Food bank plans to have indoor yard sale

LIVERPOOL - Anyone hanging out in downtown Liverpool Dec. 2 will find lots of items for sale at the Queens County Food Bank’s yard sale, scheduled to take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
This sale will be in the basement of the former Bargain Shop, said Charlotte White, co-chair of the food bank. The entrance is beside the Royal Canadian Legion, added White.
“The space was donated by Ken Anthony, and the proceeds are for us” she said.
White said the food bank is trying to raise money because eventually the organization will have to pay rent when it’s no longer in the former Mount Pleasant School building on College Street.
The day of the sale, the food bank plans to sell new Sobeys shopping bags for $10. People can buy those bags and fill them with items.
“There are clothes galore there. There’s a little bit of everything there,” said White.
In addition to clothing, there are dishes, electronics, children’s items and craft items among other things.
Christmas
“Starting in October, different items come in from Feed Nova Scotia,” explained White.
Those things are put aside, and at Christmas clients get something. White said clients also receive turkeys, Stovetop, cranberry sauce and vegetables. The food bank partners with the Salvation Army, which does cheer boxes at Christmas.
White said the food bank could always use toilet paper, instant coffee and canned fruit.
Additionally, White is having a turkey drive from now until Dec. 12. People can drop turkeys off Mondays or Tuesdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Food Drive
The 545 Privateer Air Cadets have a food drive scheduled to happen from 5-7 p.m. in front of the Astor Theatre Dec. 1. In support of the Queens County Food Bank, the drive is taking place before the tree lighting and parade of lights.
