LIVERPOOL - If you’re at the Liverpool Curling Club Nov. 24 and are among people dressed like it’s the 1950s, you haven’t gone back in time.
The club is set to host its second big event – a 1950s theme night. The event is scheduled to start at about 7 p.m.
“We’re quite excited about it, actually,” said Jennifer Conrad, the club’s junior program director.
The club had its first big event – a silent and live auction – back in September to help raise money for a new roof.
Conrad and Jennifer Chase, head of membership, are still trying to encourage people to drop into the club even if they don’t want to curl. They’ve been hosting events on Friday nights as part of the Friday night socials.
“We’re here for everybody. You don’t have to come and just curl,” said Conrad.
On 50s night, there will be music playing, curling and the bar will be open. Anyone who wants to try curling that night should have a clean pair of sneakers and helmet, although the helmet’s not mandatory.
The season
Curlers hit the ice a couple of weeks ago, said Conrad and Chase. The learn-to-curl group is small, but it’s not too late to sign up.
“We can always extend (the session),” said Conrad.
Conrad said numbers for the Light Rocks program are up. She said there is still a lot of space in the Ice Cubes program.
Conrad and Chase hope to see some more teens join the club.
