ANNAPOLIS ROYAL - While it is not normally a title to brag about, the Town of Annapolis Royal will proudly call itself a Ghost Town once again this October.
From Oct. 20 to 31, Annapolis Royal will take on a ghostly aura as the spirits of the past take over the town for this Halloween-inspired festival. The schedule includes a spook-tacular array of events.
For four big nights, Oct. 20, 21, 27 and 28, the renowned Historic Gardens will open their doors for Ghostly Gardens After Dark – a great experience as visitors wander the paths, take in the special effects and meet ghosts, grim reapers, witches, and other interesting creatures along the way.
You can visit the Witch's Lair, Bat Cave, Witchsteria Arbour, Giant Spider Web, and Musician’s Graveyard, have a hot chocolate at the “Elm Street” Cafe, and roast a marshmallow over the courtyard bonfire.
For the young and young at heart, try a little eyeball bowling, or the bone dig.
Afterwards, wander down the street to Fort Anne and join Alan Melanson for a Candlelight Graveyard Tour, with a special discount price for Ghostly Gardens ticketholders.
Both these events are rain or shine – things are even spookier on a dark and dreary night!
If ‘after dark’ is not your thing, enjoy the Ghostly Gardens by daylight, open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Explore with a Haunted Seek & Find in hand, looking for ghostly apparitions as you enjoy the Gardens in their autumn glory. And be sure to linger a while in the Musician's Graveyard, where Johnny Cash, Hank Snow, and Elvis are buried!
Look for other Halloween-themed events in the community. Enjoy shows at King’s Theatre, a workshop at ARTsPLACE, or hang out at our Haunted Winter Market on Saturday mornings. Add to that some great Halloween parties, a Haunted Seek & Find, and some ghoulish sales and specials by Annapolis Royal’s businesses… and you are sure to have a grand time when you visit… if you dare!
