Art comes alive

Students showcase their many talents with an arts night

LIVERPOOL – Visual-art displays adorned the lobby of the Town Hall Arts & Cultural Centre in Liverpool for a night of art.

The recent event was fittingly called Night of the Arts.

Liverpool Regional High School held the gathering at the Astor Theatre on June 5. The event showcased students’ fine art, singing, acting and instrumental-music playing.

The evening began with the Liverpool Regional High School Concert Band playing Erebus and Terror: The Lost Ships, A Night in Budapest and Livin’ on a Prayer. A number of performances, including solos, duets and ensembles, followed the band.

After the intermission, there was a short play called Misfits. Students in the cast are from a local youth theatre group called A Breath of Fresh Air, which is part of the Winds of Change Dramatic Society.

The Liverpool Regional High School Jazz Band finished Night of the Arts by performing Abracadabra, Summertime, Free Ride and Runaway Baby.

The high school was without a formal music program for about 20 years. A program recommenced in 2016-2017. Music teacher Chantel Corkum teaches a Grade 10 guitar class, a senior music class, and she voluntarily directs a concert band and jazz band.
