May show part of tour in Nova Scotia, first time celtic band has played in Queens County in three years

LIVERPOOL – Rawlins Cross, one of Canada’s most accomplished and beloved Celtic rock bands, is about to hit the stage once again at the Astor Theatre in Liverpool on May 18.

Rawlins Cross burst onto the East Coast music scene over 25 years ago with their album A Turn of the Wheel, and, through the years, has released a total of nine albums, toured extensively throughout Canada, the United States and Europe, resulting in two JUNO nominations and countless ECMA wins, according to their press release.  Their music is a mix between traditional Celtic, rock and world music.

The band was formed in St. John’s, NL by songwriting brothers Dave Panting, who plays both guitar and mandolin, and Geoff Panting, who plays keyboards and accordion, along with Ian MacKinnon, who is proficient in highland pipes and tin whistle.

The Astor Theatre’s general manager and co-artistic director, Andrew Bursey, says he is excited for the group to play again at the Liverpool location, as it has been three years since they last played on the Astor stage.

“It creates a lot of buzz and hype any time you have big acts come in, as it gets people excited to see their favourite band or artist,” he says. “There is always an economic spin off for the community as well.”

Prepare to hear some old favourites as well as some new material from the recently-released six-track EP. The album, Rock Steady, was released Dec. 1, 2017, and contains a collection of new songs along with a string of successful festival performances.

Prior to that, in 2010, Heart Head Hands became the first full album Rawlins Cross had released in 12 years.

The Nova Scotia tour will also include stops at Casino Nova Scotia on May 17 and King’s Theatre in Annapolis Royal on May 19.

Tickets are now on sale and are available at the Astor Theatre box office at 902-354-5250 and online at ticketpro.ca
