DIGBY, NS – The biggest bingo bash in Digby is back again for another year of big bucks.

The Giant Bingo is coming up on Sunday, October 1. The annual event is organized and hosted by the Digby Fire Department at the Fire Hall.

Fire department member and event organizer Joe Tidd says the event has been going for well over a decade, and that it shows no signs of slowing down.

“We see about 350 to 400 people every year, and are expecting another great crowd this year,” he said.

The event is the largest fundraiser for the department, and raises money for things like new boots, gear, helmets, truck repair and many other expensive things that go into assuring Digby’s firefighters are in tip top shape.

Doors open for the event at 11 a.m., with first-come-first-serve seating. Tidd says many people come early to enjoy canteen snacks like chicken wings, fries and other goodies.

The bingo starts at 1 p.m. Cost per person is $60, and additional bingo cards can be bought.

All proceeds from the event go towards firefighting in Digby, including new gear to keep firefighters in tip top shape.

“This event seems to get bigger and better every year. We always get people who come each year from as far away as Windsor, and Barrington, and many other places,” said Tidd.

“My wife Vicki takes down people’s information as they sign up, and remembers the names of who comes year to year. It’s nice seeing the people who come back.”

$15,000 will be given away at the event, which normally lasts about four and a half hours.

People are encouraged to register before October 1 so the hall will have an estimated number of people attending. To register, call Joe and Vicki Tidd at (902) 245-1931.
