Skip Brian Rafuse, Mate Curt Palmer, Second Alan Darragh, First Dave Slauenwhite, and Fifth Glenn Josephson, who didn’t play, defeated Truro’s Team MacIntosh 9-4 Feb. 17 to capture the 2008 Senior Men’s Provincial Curling Championships title.
The team was undefeated during the tournament. Team Rafuse also won the Nova Scotia Keith’s Tankard Feb. 10 in Wolfville, meaning the athletes will be competing in two national championships next month.
Don MacIntosh stopped the game in the seventh end.
Tournament chair, Leo Campbell pointed out the first-time provincial feat, adding with a laugh, “Brian, you’re too old to be a junior, so you can’t win that trophy.”
Rafuse congratulated the Liverpool Curling Club for the tournament’s success. He added he was worried about the final bout because he believes it was a “rubber” match between the two teams.
He said his teammates “gave me lots of easy shots to make all week.”
Team Rafuse wins second provincial title
