Liverpool will welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs when Alumni Members Tiger Williams, Al Iafrate, Gary Leaman, Mark Osborne, Tom Fergus take to the ice for an exhibition game Friday Sept. 27 at Queens Place Emera Centre.
The event is a fundraiser for the Liverpool Fire Department in support of the new ladder truck says volunteer Event Organizers Alan Robart, a member of the Department and Jamie Brown. While neither will admit which NHL Team they typically cheer for, both say for this event, it’s Leaf s Nation all the way.
Plans to bring the Leafs to Liverpool began some time ago says Robart and the Department is excited to finally be able to announce it today. Although the reason for the event is to raise funds for the Fire Department, organizers say there’s more to it than that.
“Our Department is like many other organizations who are trying to get creative with our fundraising efforts,” says Robart “bringing in this event gives us a chance to give our community a really great experience while supporting us.”
Brown agrees saying he’s most excited about being able to have NHL Alumni actually play here in Liverpool at Queens Place Emera Centre. “We have such an amazing facility in Queens Place Emera Centre, this event will let us showcase it before what we expect will be a sold out crowd”. Both note that being able to access Queens Place Emera Centre as a not for profit and the support they have received from the team there has been a huge boost for the event.
Donna Hatt, chair of Events Liverpool with the South Queens Chamber of Commerce says the committee was delighted when asked to lend a helping hand to the event.
“Rallying behind and supporting events that make our community the Event Capital of Nova Scotia is a real pleasure. Thanks to the vision and efforts of Robart and Brown, we’ll add hosting former NHLers to our event resume, create some real community excitement and attracting guests to the area, all while raising valuable funds for the Department.”
As for who the Leafs Alumni will play, Event Organizers say that team is currently in development. The exhibition game is meant to be a fun evening that will give some lucky aspiring or past hockey players a chance to hit the ice with some of their NHL hero’s either with or against them.
If you want to get up close, but not on the ice, you’ll have your chance too. There will be a pre-game Reception in the afternoon for 80 lucky folks as well as a Dressing Room Pass opportunity during the game.
While the Organizers are busy getting the final details in order, the public can get busy supporting the event and buying their tickets, and just in time for Father’s Day too.
Tickets for the Sept. 27 game are now available from Liverpool Fire Department Members, Brady’s Building Supplies and AA Munroe in Liverpool. Prices for general seating for the game are $25 each. The VIP Package limited to 80 at $75 includes the afternoon Reception with the Toronto Maple Leaf Alumni Team Players and ticket to the game while the Dressing Room Package limited to 60 at $50 includes ticket to the game and an exclusive visit to the dressing room to visit with the team during intermission.
