The Wild started off strong, scoring the first goal of the game in the first period in just under five minutes.
They also came out strong in the second period, adding two more goals to the scoreboard.
However by then the River Rats were getting into their stride. Avon scored twice in the second period, and in the third period tied up the game early.
The Wild were on the defensive and managed to keep any more shots at bay, but weren’t able to add any of their own.
The game went into overtime, and Avon poured on the pressure. The River Rats scored at the 42 second mark, taking the game 4-3.
Goals for the Wild were scored by Jesse Jelfs, Alex Garland and Ethan Janes.
Playoffs between the Wild and the Barrington Ice Dogs being this Friday at Queens Memorial Arena at 9:15 p.m. The best of five series continues the next night in Barrington at 5:30 p.m.
