RECREATION REPORT

Geocaching Event

Come and explore the trails of Pine Grove Park while searching for the hidden geocaches on Thursday, July 16th from 1:30 – 3:00 pm. GPS units will be provided. Wear sneakers and appropriate clothing. Ages: 8 - 13 years. Cost: $5 (drink included). Pre-register by Thursday, July 9th. Rain date Friday, July 17th.

Summerville Family Beach Party

On Sunday, July 19th from 1- 4 pm, gather up the family, pack the sunscreen and meet us at the beach! Enjoy an afternoon of building sand sculptures and playing wacky games- ice cream eating contest, relay races, and much more! Rain date: Sunday, July 26th.

Youth Tennis Camp, North Queens

On July 21st from 1:30 – 3:30 pm join instructor Taryn Jollimore from the Liverpool Tennis Club to learn all the basic skills that you will need to enjoy a game of tennis with your friends. Bring your tennis racquet and water and wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Ages: 5 years +. Cost: $ 10. Pre-register by Monday, July 13th. Minimum of four people. Rain date: Thursday, July 23rd.

Swimming Lesson Registration: Sessions 3 & 4

Registration for swimming lessons at the Milton Centennial Pool will take place on July 21 & 22 from 8:00 am - 6 pm each day at the RQM Recreation Department, and for the North Queens Aquatic Centre from 10 am - 6 pm at the North Queens Aquatic Centre. The cost of lessons is $35 per child per session, or $83 per session for a family of 3+. Registration is taken on a first come first serve basis; payment and a complete signed waiver is due at the time of registration. Session 3: July 27- August 7th. Session 4: August 10- 21st. Refund requests will not be processed after the start day of the program. A refund is available only for medical reasons or for special circumstances; determined by the discretion of the Director of Recreation and Community Facilities.

Introduction to Nordic Walking Workshop, Greenfield

On July 28th from 6:30 – 8:00 pm we will be holding a workshop that will introduce you to Nordic walking by covering the history, benefits, proper technique and required equipment. Weather permitting there will be an optional outdoor walk. Families Welcome. Instructor: Connie Banfield. Ages: 16 years + unless accompanied by an adult. Cost: $12 for Greenfield Rec. Centre members; $14 for non-members of Greenfield Rec. Centre (both fees include pole rental). Pre-register by Monday, July 20th. Space is limited.

Baseball Camp, Caledonia

Hit, run and throw your way to a great time at the Baseball Camp hosted by coaches from the Liverpool Baseball Club on July 28th and 29th from 1:30 – 4:30 pm at the Harmony Ball Field. Learn the skills of the game by going through stations that focus on each skill. Ages: 6 - 12 years. Cost: $15. Pre-register by Tuesday, July 14th. In the event of rain the camp will be extended by one day.

Diva Day, Liverpool

Princesses wanted! Wear your favourite princess dress and get ready for an afternoon (2pm – 4pm) of royal treatment on July 30th, 2009 at the Rossignol Cultural Centre, English Room! Ages: 5 - 8 years. Cost: $8.00 (includes snack). Pre-register by Thursday, July 23rd. Space is limited.

Skipping Day for Kids, Brooklyn

Single rope, long rope, double dutch... Come spend the morning of August 4th (10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.) hopping, skipping, and jumping to the music while you learn the tricks of the trade at the Brooklyn Community Hall! Wear sneakers and shorts, and bring a water bottle! Ages: 5 -12 years. Cost: $5.00. Pre-register by Monday, July 27th.

Seniors Day at Marina Park, Brooklyn

Gather your friends and boogie to the music of the Saltwater Cowboys from 10 am – 12 noon on August 6th! Snacks and refreshments will be served. Bring your own lawn chair! All ages welcome. Cost: Free! Rain location: Brooklyn Baptist Church Hall. There will be some shade tents on site, but you may want to bring a hat or umbrella to keep the sun off!

Soccer Camp, Port Medway

Come join instructors from the Queens Minor Soccer Association and learn to kick it while having a ball from August 10th – 12th from 1:30 – 3:30 pm! Learn skills, practice with drills and play soccer. Ages: 5 -14 years. Cost: $ 30.00 for 3 days. Location: Field beside Farmers Medway Market (1615 Port Medway Road). Pre-register by Monday, August 3rd. In the event of rain, the camp will be extended by one day.
