The league is having an open meeting on April 23, and hopes to put together teams from Shelburne and Queens counties. The meeting is taking place at the Liverpool Superstore’s community room, starting at 6:30 p.m.
Last year the league had four teams, and this year they want to grow, says Stacy Smith. The casual league is open to anyone aged 16 and over.
“The women that come really do enjoy it,” she says.
The league plays two to three times a week in the summer months, with an opening fundraiser tournament in early to mid June. Playing in the tournament has its own benefits as well. Any player that helps out, from cooking hotdogs to helping clean up, gets free registration in the league. This is a bonus, especially if you travel to play, says Smith.
Games through the summer are held at baseball fields in and around Liverpool; however the league is open to players from all over. Already a team from Barrington has expressed interest in joining, and they are hoping to get a team from Shelburne.
It takes nine players to make a team; however usually a few more are a good idea in case some players can’t make certain games.
