Team President, Alan Robart says, “We were really shorthanded, with one injured and one sick. Our city players chose to go back to Halifax early; it was a 2 p.m. start, which meant they could be in the city by 8 p.m. at the latest, if they played. The team really missed them.”
Robart says the Wild tied the game with only 24 seconds left and Brandon Burgess hit the crossbar with five seconds remaining. A five-minute four-on-four overtime proved nothing, so a five-player shootout took place.
Tied at two goals, a one-player shootout would decide the winner. The Keith’s prevailed.
Wild scorers were Justin Hanley, Ryan Ewing, Nick Handspiker and Justin MacDonnell. Assisting were MacDonnell, Killam, Lane, Sawyer (2), Ewing and Handspiker. Hanley and Killam scored during the shootout.
Robart says all in all we took the game to them although we were out-shot 51-44. “All players were heroes as they switched from forward to defense all game. One extra forward makes so much difference to give two full lines.
“Having only nine skaters in the last two away games - Harbour Crunch and now Digby - is unacceptable and will be addressed.”
The next two games are Friday night in Clare and Saturday night in Yarmouth. Robart says, “What makes this difficult is we are two points out of third and two points ahead of Yarmouth for fourth spot. The top four teams in our Division make the playoffs.
“Our goal now is to reach third place and stay to play second place Barrington in the playoffs. With 10 games remaining it is critical we have every player available that is signed. The playoffs are attainable but only if all the players are committed.”
