This year the challenge is taking place on Feb. 16 at the Liverpool Curling Club.
Last year, with the curling club out of commission due to a broken chiller, the organizers held a washer toss. Organizer Ann Bellfontaine says it was still a success however, raising over $5,000. This year it is back to the tried and true curling now that the club is operational again.
Many of the favourite events around the fundraiser are returning as well. The kitchen will be open for lunch, with the proceeds going to support the club, and prizes will be handed out to the to the biggest fundraisers.
Bellfontaine has run the Curl for Cancer for the past several years, even after moving to Halifax. She says there are several reasons she stays involved. Partly it is in memory of her late husband Michael, and partly because she is a two time cancer survivor herself. On top of that, she says it's a great project to work on.
"I enjoy working with the women in the cancer unit, they're a great bunch," she says.
Teams can sign up by calling Rosalie Smith 354-4915, or Bellfontaine at 902-864-3274. Sign up is $20 per team. Kits for fundraising are available at Curling Club or from Smith.
