Curling fans in Queens Co. are in for a treat this month, with two tournaments coming to the Liverpool Curling Club.
From March 18-21, Liverpool will play host to the Under-18 provincials. Twenty-eight teams from all over Nova Scotia will take part in the four-day event. While there are no Liverpool teams taking part in the tournament, Thomas Raddall will be on a team from Bridgewater.
Curling Club manager Greg Thourburne says it’ll be a lot of good curling too, with many teams that took part in the Canada Games qualifiers. They’ll be a few known names in the coach’s corner too. Jim Burgess, Craig Burgess and Colleen Jones all have teams in the tournament, and Jones’ son Luke is on the team she coaches.
Just one week later from March 25-28, the Provincial High School tournament will come to Liverpool. About 24 teams will take part in the tournament, including one from Liverpool Regional High School, skipped by Wade Davison.
As always, volunteers will busily be working in the kitchen, keeping everyone fed.
Spectators are welcome, and admission to both tournaments is free.
