Letter: More attention needed on Queens hospital lab

The old saying “if you don’t use it you lose it” does not hold true in the issue about losing our lab services at Queens General.

As Gary Levy pointed out in the February 25 edition of this paper we will be losing 80-90 per cent of our lab services and 2 of our lab techs. I want to know why this was not brought to the public’s attention; why was it not something that was voted on and why as Gary suggested was the two lab techs not loaned to Bridgewater hospital until they could “find their own.”

I was up to have lab work done on Thursday the 6th and the lineup was out in the hall so I went back on the 7th and actually only had a 40 minute wait. Why is it we seem to take everything that is dished out to us? Why are we not fighting back? As Gary also stated, we have raised over $16 million to have a state of the art hospital but it will be one with no lab.

Our Mayor, our councilors and our MLA needs to address this issue to ensure we do not lose these services and the public needs to “step up to the plate” and let your voice be heard. So people please write the editor of this paper or your councilor but make some noise, make your voice heard.

Susan Levy
