Ownership of the site was transferred earlier this year from Cooke Aquaculture to Ocean Trout Farms, a company headquartered out of Ontario. The company is in the process of restocking the site with Trout, which started last weekend.
The FPMB had an unwritten agreement with Cooke Aquaculture not to restock the site for three years, which would have expired in the fall of 2012. This was not a legally binding agreement.
In April, the Region of Queens asked for a complete moratorium on aquaculture in Port Mouton Bay from the province of Nova Scotia. This was rejected by fisheries minister Sterling Belliveau.
