On the day of, and those following Resorts fire, White Pointers headed online for a glimpse of what was happening on White Point’s original BeachCam that went live in April 2011 hosted on NovaScotiaWebcams.com. Donna Hatt, White Point’s Marketing Director says that emails and the property’s social sites lit up with people wanting to be a part of the experience, real time.
“Due to fire related challenges, and the devastating condition of the site”, Hatt says, “it was nearly 7 days later before our BeachCam was reactivated, and the camera angle turned slightly to omit part of the structure that remained standing.”
With the demolition now complete and the pre-Christmas announcement of the Main Lodge Design Team, White Point is delighted to be able to honour a frequent and very public request, the installation of a Construction Webcam on NovaScotiaWebcams. This will be White Point’s second webcam, and the 50th in the NovaScotiaWebcam province-wide collection. The Construction Webcam will provide a front row, unobstructed view of what’s anticipated to be a 10-month rebuilding process.
Partnering with NovaScotiaWebcams for this was obvious says Hatt. “This virtual site has been a perfect pairing for us. Our BeachCam has been incredibly popular with our guests, and those who just appreciate the ocean views.” She further issues caution to webcam viewers, “the cleared site, at first, is difficult to look at and emotional for many”.
White Point’s Construction Webcam will go live at 12 noon Dec. 31, 2011 at www.novascotiawebcams.com and remain until construction is complete. White Point also issued a welcome mat for suggestions and ideas for the new Main Lodge earlier and expects that the virtual insight will inspire many more submissions for consideration to www.whitepoint.com
Website statistics indicate that NovaScotiaWebcams.com has generated 12.2 million page views in 2011, much like visitors to Nova Scotia – there is a high repeat visitation at 75 per cent. During 2011, thanks to NovaScotiaWebcams.com, Nova Scotia has been ‘open to the world’ offering more than 700,000 virtual guests unique, real time, oceanfront views, insight into the life of a lobster, a close-up view to follow the reconstruction of the Bluenose II and now, the rebuilding of White Point’s Main Lodge.
White Point is a year round-oceanfront beach vacation destination on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. While the 13 vacation homes and cottages remain available for vacationers, the main property is closed during the Main Lodge rebuilding and property wide renovations until Fall 2012.
