It was an emotional time for some at the North Queens Remembrance Day Service.

Over 50 people came to the North Queens Rural High School gymnasium to pay their respects, and honour those that gave their lives in service of their country.

Rev. John Boddy spoke during the service, reflecting on what Nov. 11 means. “What is the victory we won?” he asked. Did we win peace? If this is to remember peace, why do we still have war?”

On this day in 1918, he said, “We buried the hatchet but left the handle out. World War II pulled the hatchet back out, but by the end we smashed it into pieces. It is the splinters left over that remains a thorn in our side.”

But his message was one of hope. “Can we see peace in our lifetime? Yes, we can.”

After the honour role was read, over 60 wreaths were laid at the front of the gym. The veterans also received applause from the crowd.
