A man who stole over $116,000 from White Point Beach Resort ATM deposits to primarily feed a gambling addiction was sentenced in Liverpool Provincial Court March 27 to two years in prison followed by 18 months probation.

Doug Floren, 45, now of New Minas was the resort’s accounting supervisor at the time. Floren admitted to taking the money over a period of more than a year that ended in November 2006.

Floren has also been ordered not to drink or take drugs and not gamble or go near places with gambling machines and services. He must pay back the money and his counselling requirements cover mental health, addictions, substance abuse and, of course, gambling.
