For its second time, the annual event will kick off the night of the Santa Claus parade and tree-lighting ceremony Nov. 30.
Last year’s gift gallery was in the building beside Home Hardware. This year, the event is moving down the street to Conopeum Art at 344 Main St. in Liverpool.
“It was a brainchild of the Christmas committee of the (South Queens) Chamber of Commerce,” says Susan MacLeod, one of the organizers.
“A group of us got together and talked about how we can promote local retailers and businesses.”
Last year’s showcase and sale went very well, says MacLeod. She says about 300 people came through the doors the first night. Because the gift gallery wasn’t open during the day Saturday, things slowed down a little, but this year the doors will be open all day.
More than 30 vendors are registered to participate and vendors will be selling a variety of things, including anything from jewelry and artwork to food, such as jelly and jam.
“I think it’s an opportunity for people to have something to do on a Saturday as far as buying gifts,” says MacLeod.
Buying gifts isn’t the only thing people will be able to do. There will also be coffee, tea and food.
Last year a second gift gallery happened during the Liverpool International Theatre Festival (LITF).
“So we kind of choose a theme depending on what events or what festivals are being held,” says MacLeod.
The Chamber of Commerce hopes to do something similar and, depending on what’s happening in the spring, have a second gift gallery, MacLeod says. Nothing has been decided, and it will depend on whether artisans are prepared to have another sale.
The event is slated to take place Friday, Nov. 30 from 5 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
