From May 16 to 20,  the world will converge on Liverpool, Nova Scotia, for the highly anticipated eleventh anniversary of the Liverpool International Theatre Festival. This year’s event promises to be one of the best yet, offering an array of first-time theatre companies and the return of past festival favourites. Among the international performers invited to LITF 2012 are representatives from Germany, Egypt, Georgia, Slovakia, Poland, Wales, USA and more.

The Accommodations Committee Chair, Deborah Spartinelli, is looking for residents in Queens County who can offer performers a place to stay during the festival.

“In the past, Queens County residents have generously opened their homes to theatre festival participants, and are well-known as warm, big-hearted, and friendly folks,” says Spartinelli. “Billeting has opened eyes and doors to the world. Many families have stayed in touch with their billets from past years, and in some cases have even visited the billets in their home country.”

At a minimum, LITF asks host families to provide accommodations (one bed per participant) and breakfast for four or five days (depending on when the performers arrive). In addition, although LITF has volunteer drivers, hosts who can provide transportation to and from the festival in the morning would be especially helpful. Any other special outings or adventures are entirely optional for the host. If a host has any special preferences regarding a billet (i.e. language or gender preferences), LITF will make every effort to ensure a suitable match. Also, if hosts have special abilities or accommodations (i.e. fluency in a foreign language or disabled-accessible homes), LITF would appreciate being made aware.

The performers arrive beginning on May16, depending on their flights. LITF will transport participants from the airport to the Liverpool Curling Club. Host families are asked to pick up their billets at the curling club, unless their billets arrive late at night. If this occurs, billets will be dropped off at the hosts’ homes. All billets will depart no later than the holiday Monday; hosts will be asked to drop off their billets at the curling club.

All host families will receive an information kit from the Accommodations Committee containing their billet’s arrival and departure information, festival contact phone numbers, festival schedules, and contact information for the families who will be hosting members of the same theatre company.

If you are interested in hosting a participant for the festival, please contact Deborah Spartinelli at 683-2779 or email dahs@eastlink.ca  For more detailed information about the festival, please visit our website at www.litf.ca.
