Nimbus Publishing has launched the latest book by local author Vernon Oickle. South Shore Facts and Folklore is all about the region’s history, geography, and culture are presented in the book as fun and occasionally quirky factoids in the newest edition of the “Facts and Folklore” series.

With a history that dates back centuries, the region is filled with a diverse and eclectic range of cultures from all over the world. Some facts about Nova Scotia’s South Shore include:

•producing some of Nova Scotia’s most famous personalities, such as writer Thomas H. Raddall, painter Maud Lewis, and actor Donald Sutherland,

•the birthplace of the Bluenose,

•the balsam fir Christmas tree capital of the world, and its picturesque coastline make it a popular location for film shoots, including for The Scarlet Letter, Pit Pony, and The Shipping News.

Vernon Oickle has won many regional, national, and international awards for writing and photography. He is the editor of the award-winning newspaper The Lunenburg County Progress Bulletin.
