Like many Cape Breton Islanders, Keith Mullins has played music all of his life where family and a culture of music fostered his passion and ability. Having completed a music degree and self-directed studies in Cuba and Africa, Keith turned his passion for music into a calling. He developed and facilitated a highly successful program of music workshops, beginning with his drumming workshops 10 years ago. This venture blossomed into a Salsa workshop with an eight-piece band from Cuba, and more recently, a highly regarded series of song writing workshops. Keith’s debut CD “Localmotive Farm” saw his first single “Somewhere To Be” reach #1 on the East Count Countdown followed by a second #1 with “Trouble.”

Keith is currently busy with the Wood Buffalo Project, in collaboration with friend and singer songwriter, Thom Swift.  In March 2011, Keith and Thom visited 10 schools in 10 days in Northern Alberta. Each morning they worked with a small group of students to create a song from scratch. The songs explore themes of love, family, strength, community and heritage. The students’ voices were recorded, followed by the songwriters’ voices and instruments. Every song was written, performed, and recorded in one day. The result is the Wood Buffalo Youth Song Project. The purchase of this recording will assist school programs and youth support initiatives.

Steven Bowers is well known to Liverpool audiences, having performed at local pubs and house parties for many years. He is a gifted songwriter and a captivating performer with a powerful, versatile voice.

His 2009 CD, "Circadian Anthem," delivered five new songs plus a fresh take on an earlier song, "Comfortably Sweet," featuring Christina Martin. The song found its way into the season four premiere episode of the popular CBC TV series, Heartland.

Steven’s 2008 release, "Homing," was nominated for 2009 ECMA Folk Recording of the Year, and multiple Music Nova Scotia awards. Steven is currently working on his latest full-length recording due for digital release in September 2011.

Cover is $6, with the show running from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., ages 19 plus. For more information, please check out Keith Mullins & Steven Bowers Aug 11 & 12 in Liverpool on Facebook.
