"Over the next 18 months, with the completion of Ocean Club and continued expansion of Vacation Club, this development will add 30 new rooms to the Resort and see our staff complement reach 180," says Robert Risley, President of the Company.
Ocean Club continues to build on the demand and success of the company's Vacation Home and Rental accommodations bringing with it positive economic spin-offs for the Resort and the surrounding communities. The economic impact of this development is significant. While the development phase is being serviced primarily by local contractors, the project will increase employment opportunities and the tax base within Queens Co. Guests of these types of accommodation also tend to stay for longer periods of time, generating increased tourism volumes at local restaurants, all types of retail outlets, and community attractions resulting in incremental year-round activity.
White Point Beach Resort, the largest year-round, privately owned resort in Atlantic Canada, is enjoying a good season. Strong pleasure travel activity and meeting business is tracking slightly ahead of last year despite a challenged economy. Donna Hatt, Marketing Director for the Resort is enthusiastic about the response to the Resort's expanded weekday programs and theme weekends. "Guests are attracted to our dynamic, engaging experiences and of course, our oceanfront beach location," says Hatt, indicating numerous guests have returned for a second time this spring.
Tourism continues to be is a major job creator and economic engine on the South Shore and around the province. With developments like Ocean Club, tourism is becoming less and less a seasonal business. "Tourism is no longer just job entry employment; it offers year-round, rewarding careers," says Dan Morton, Resort Manager and current Chair of the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia.
The Grand Opening of Ocean Club is being hosted on Thursday May 14 at 11 a.m. followed by an Open House until 2 p.m. at White Point Beach Resort and is open to the public. More details are available at www.whitepoint.com
