New face for South Queens chamber

Amber Trimm started as Youth Business Administrator for the chamber, with the plan of generating more interest in the community. She is also working for South Shore Opportunities Inc. CBDC.

The ‘youth’ part of the title refers to the position created for someone between 19 and 34, rather then targeting youth business.

Chamber co-chair Mark Sapp says while the chamber has goals, they needed someone to get the projects going. “The chamber is in the growing stage. While we had the motivation and the ideas, we didn’t have the capacity to (do it) without Amber in place,” he says. “It’s also an excellent opportunity for a young person who wants to stay in Queens Co. to get some business experience.”

Trimm’s work will involve going around to businesses and promoting the chamber’s mandate and the benefits of belonging to the organization.

Sapp says that the chamber’s mandates include attracting people and businesses to help the community grow, provide a voice to all levels of government dealing with economic issues, and creating a place for businesses to make contacts they normally wouldn’t have an opportunity to do.

Already their community involvement is growing. The chamber recently partnered with the Region of Queens to put on a ‘how to run effective meetings’ course for volunteer groups. Later on in Nov. they will partner with Junior Achievement to bring an interactive presentation to Grade 9 students on the economics of staying in school.

Originally from Mill Village, Trimm is a graduate of Mount St. Vincent University, majoring in Sociology and Anthropology, and Nova Scotia Community College with an advanced diploma in Public Relations.
