The Western Head causeway continues to be repaired, and will soon have new and improved shoreline protection to go with it.

It was incorrectly reported in The Advance that the repair work for the whole causeway would take a week. That estimate was actually for the sub grade, which Tim Crowe, Department of Transportation Operations Manager in Liverpool, says took them just three days.

The department is working closely with Environmental Services in order to come up with a plan to protect shoreline. “Where the ocean’s been changing the shoreline their, we need to come up with a plan that’s long term stabilization for the road,” says Crowe.

He added they don’t want to put something in just to have it wash out again in the next storm.

Crowe says they plan on starting work on the shoreline this week. He didn’t have a timeline on the full restoration, but will give updates as they go along.
