Over 1,500 lives were lost on April 14, 1912 when the ill-fated RMS Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic. Ninety-six years later, the cast and creative team of the Winds of Change will bring the legendary story of the RMS Titanic and its passengers back to life, beginning on April 18, 2008.

Titanic: Tragedy and Trial dramatized by Pat Cook, is based on a compilation of historical facts, newspaper articles and survivor interviews. In the first act, “Voices From the Titanic” the audience experiences the chilling series of events through the eyes of the passengers and crew. In Act Two, “Echoes From the Titanic,” the survivors share their harrowing experience in an adaptation of the Senate hearings of 1912.

The cast and creative team of Titanic: Tragedy and Trial is a diverse mix of veteran Winds of Change members coupled with a wealth of new talent, guided under the leadership of co-directors Richard Comeau and Rick Gilbert. The first act “Voices From the Titanic” will also serve as the Winds of Change submission for the 2008 Liverpool International Theatre Festival. “We chose a production we hoped would resonate with both our local audience and our international visitors,” says Comeau. “This play transcends the language barriers, yet allows us to share a story with tremendous significance to Nova Scotians.”

Co-director Rick Gilbert encourages the local community to attend the full production in April. “Our LITF submission is only one act of the two-act play,” says Gilbert. “Act two, “Echoes From the Titanic” offers the audience a critical piece of the Titanic story.”

Production dates are April 18-20 at the Astor Theatre, beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 each ($10 for students) and are now available at the Astor Theatre Box Office by contacting 354-5520.
